Replace reel seat and cork

Hey guys and gals.

I I want to get some boat rods that could double as bar rods. I'm thinking something like a 9-10.5 heavy. The problem is most have trigger grips. They don't sit 'nice' in the rod holders.

Is is it a big deal to replace the reel seats?

I don't build rods and have no clue what's involved. Maybe cut the trigger off and epoxy/ sand it smooth is a better option?

Any insight would be helpful here.

Thanks.

That's pretty much it. For smaller rods you can often put the grip in boiling water to loosen the epoxy, but for a larger rod it's probably best to cut it off with a dremel. The entire bottom end of the rod needs to be rebuilt (cork, foam, or whatever the bottom grip is made of).
I have seen an interesting one where the bottom grip was sanded on a lathe to be uniform size, then a new grip slid on from the bottom.
This is a pretty advanced job - not sure I would try it without experience.
