I have been using a 10lb ball with no coating. I am starting tho think that might be a bit light. Should I go to a 12lb coated??

Search Google Images for "downrigger angle" and check the results. Print one of those charts, laminate it, and keep it on your boat. It will tell you your actual depth based on downrigger angle. *The most important thing* is to match your actual depth with the target depth on your finder. A heavier ball may help, but not nearly as much as a good angle chart!

If you're fishing deeper, I'd recommend a 15lb (or a 20lb if your downrigger can handle it).

Cheers,

Salted
