Default what weight of down rigger ball?

I have been using a 10lb ball with no coating. I am starting tho think that might be a bit light. Should I go to a 12lb coated??

If fishing deep for winters and your boat and riggers can handle it, I'd say 15 should do for most applications. 10 is definitely not enough to get your ball in the zone.

I agree with BGM, over the years I have found no need to carry about a pile of different sized balls for different applications.
A 15 will work in just about every application.

I agree, 15 is perfect for almost every situation. I've had a 20 for about year and a half and it just sits in the boat, it's never been wet.

Check Craigslist, there's a couple guys in Surrey that make them in their garage.
