If you have the Navionics app and a current subscription. Update it soon. Tons of new stuff available including marked artificial reefs.

Just found out that they have also added a feature where you can transfer waypoints (markers) from your app to your graph. Here is what the email said.
    Plotter Sync
Soon to be released, Plotter Sync lets you connect wirelessly to your plotter, via the Navionics Boating app on your mobile device, to activate your Navionics+ card, download new areas and updates to your card, and transfer routes and markers.

Didn't the Navionics app (iPhone and Android) used to be a one time fee? I'm pretty sure it was. I realize that they want that recurring revenue stream of annual subscriptions, but I'm also really curious to know how they treated their customers (who bought it before the annual subscription model was made clear).

If you bought the Navionics Boating app, are you old users grandfathered into to new annual data for free? Or do you have to pay each year now?

FYI: I bought it just over a year ago, they were clear at that time that I'd get updated info for 1 year. Now that it's expired, I can still view my previous data. I'm happy with that, as it's as advertised.

Good question Salted and sorry I just now saw this. The standard app is free but it does not have all of the best detail like the 1ft contour intervals. It has the Nautical Chart data which will help with general navigation and you can still add markers, etc.

You are correct in that the higher detail is a year subscription. It works the same way with the cards that you put into your chartplotter in that you will not lose all of the data you have, but it will not get any better once the subscription ends as there are no more updates. The Navionics data is continually getting better each day so to get that latest info you would need a subscription.

Ditto what tbrinks said. Navionics also used to have a PC app that you could use to map out your routes and then upload them to your chartplotter. Unfortunately, they killed off the PC app. I liked the PC app as it was much easier to build my routes on the PC then it was on the chartplotter directly. The first company to bring back a similar PC app gets my next dollars when I decide to upgrade my chartplotter!
