Subject: FN0566-SANITARY - Area 17 - Emergency Closure for Bivalve Shellfish near Hammond Bay, Nanaimo

As a result of a break in the outfall pipe from the Hammond Bay wastewater
treatment plant the following area is now closed to all bivalve shellfish
harvest until further notice.

Emergency Closure Area 17.ee – West of Neck Point to Lagoon Head

Portions of Subareas 17-12, 17-18 and 17-21 within a radius of 1200m of a point
in water at 49°13.87' north latitude and 123°57.75' west longitude including
existing annual sanitary closure 17.15 in Hammond Bay and Pipers Lagoon,
extending northwesterly along the shore of Vancouver Island approximately 930 m
from Neck Point and approximately 127 m southeasterly along the shore from
Lagoon Head.
