RECREATIONAL - Salmon

Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0831-RECREATIONAL - SALMON: Region 3 - Extension for Sockeye and Chinook Salmon fishing in Thompson River.

Conservation measures are in place to limit Canadian exploitation rates for
Interior Fraser River coho to 3%. Measures include a moving timing window in
the Fraser River which began September 7 below Mission during which only
selective fishery opportunities may be permitted.

During this critical migration timing for Interior Fraser coho, the
recreational community is requested to fish selectively when fishing for
sockeye, chinook and chum. The first principle of selective harvest is to avoid
catching non-targeted stocks. This means that anglers are requested to use
angling methods that do not catch coho.

Effective: Monday September 20, 2010 to Thursday September 30, 2010, Daylight
Hours only (One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset). Reference to
sunrise and sunset in the Schedule to this Order means the times for those
events as calculated by the National Research Council of Canada and published
daily in the Kamloops newspaper.

The retention of four (4) sockeye per day, four (4) Chinook per day of which
one (1) may be over 50cm, with a combined daily limit of four (4) salmon per
day, in the following waters:

1) Savona – Kamloops Lake outlet to fishing boundary signs approximately 1 km
downstream of the Hwy # 1 bridge.

2) Walhachin – fishing boundary signs 1km upstream and 1km downstream of
Walhachin Road Bridge.

3) Juniper – Juniper Beach park upstream boundary to fishing boundary signs
approx 1.5 km downstream.

4) Ashcroft – from the downstream side of the mouth of the Bonaparte River to
fishing boundary signs 1km upstream of the mouth of Bonaparte River.

5) Goldpan – from fishing boundary signs 800 m downstream of the Hwy 1 Bridge
at Spences Bridge to fishing boundary signs just downstream of Goldpan
Provincial Park.

6)From the Hwy # 8 bridge at Spences Bridge upstream to a fishing boundary sign
located approximately 1 kilometer downstream from the railway siding at Martel
(west side of the river only).

Effective Wednesday, September 22, 2010 to Thursday, September 30, 2010, on the
Thompson River (during daylight hours as defined above)and Effective Monday,
September 27, 2010 to Thursday, September 30, 2010, on the Fraser River(during
daylight hours as defined above):

You may not fish for coho salmon.
You may not use bait when fishing for salmon.

You may selectively fish for the following species:
- Chinook salmon, the daily limit is four (4) per day, only one of which may
exceed 62 cm.
- Sockeye salmon, the daily limit is four (4) per day.

Variation Order 2010-389 and 2010-390.

The aggregate daily limit for all species of Pacific Salmon (other than
kokanee) from tidal and non-tidal waters combined is four (4). The possession
limit is eight (8) Salmon.

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia. This includes all species of fish in the Fraser
River.
