We just returned from our annual July holidays, we had a great trip up Vancouver Island visiting Port McNeil, Telegraph Cove and Cruised the Broughtons for 2 weeks. Saw our first ever Grizzly Bear close up in Thompson Sound while Teresa and i were fishing for trout. We also stopped by our new saltwater operation based out of Coal Harbor and did some fishing for salmon and Halibut. If your looking for some great fishing on the Island, give us a call and we can tell you more about it.
Fishing around the Fraser Valley has been a bit slow the past few weeks. Salmon fishing just opened on July 16 for retention of Chinook salmon ( see regulations) Water conditions are not quite suitable for Bar fishing yet but we are not far away. Another week or so and I think we should have enough visibility to plunk spin n glos and Tee Spoons. Until then we are still offering salmon fishing charters out of our Delta Hotel Location fishing the Vancouver area for Coho and mouth of the Fraser for Chinook. Crab fishing has been okay but commercial guys did a great job cleaning it out as usual.
Sturgeon fishing has been slower than normal although there are some big fish around. I am sure everyone has heard of the 12 ft sturgeon that was caught on July 16, and there was a 9ft caught just a few days ago near Mission. Those are both great fish but not the normal catch on a days fishing. You can expect to catch between 4 to 10 fish on an average day with a couple fish over 4ft. As the salmon migration builds, larger fish will be feeding which means more big fish caught by anglers. We are already starting to see the transition from spring baits to summer baits, sturgeon are now starting to feed on salmon roe, salmon bellies and other salmon type baits. We are also seeing some nice fish caught on Lamprey eels and Sqaw Fish.

We also have seats available for August 18 at this time. The cost is $129 p/p, give us a call if you would like to experience a trip of a lifetime.
Pitt River 062212 038.jpg
Both our lake and river fishing charters are doing quite well, lots of fish in the 1 to 5 lb range this past week. Thomas was out yesterday and hooked over 20 fish between 1 and 3 lbs. Fishing should remain good until end of August. We offer fly and spin fishing and instructional guide trips. Give us a call for more information.
Salmon forcast for the Fraser
The summer forcast is not looking that great for the river fishing side of things, sockeye numbers are not expected to be large enough for a recreational fishery and will barely meet FSC fishery needs. The early Chinook numbers were larger than predicted and we are expecting some good runs of late summer fish. No Pink Salmon this year so September will be a bit lean with last two weeks picking up once the Coho, Chum and Fall runs of Chinook Enter the river.
The Vedder is fishing very well right now, lots of sockeye in the river which are great fun but no retention so make sure you keep these fish in the water so they can be released unharmed. There are some smaller Chinook jacks being caught so look for the spots on the tail before you drag a fish on shore. Water conditions are high but visibility is excellent. Some larger Chinook are being caught in the upper river and reports of some nice fish coming out of the usual spots.
Vancouver Salmon Fishing
Vancouver Salmon fishing has been spotty at best, Coho at the mouth of the capilano are small ( 3 to 5 lbs) but you will catch the occassional Chinook while targeting this area. The area around the QA has started to produce some biggter Chinook heading up the Fraser and this fishery should improve as more fish move into the system. Howe Sound might be your best bet this week as some fish heading up the Squamish are being caught. Best bet to try the "Hole in the wall" and other known local hot spots.
