We are still working on the details, but rumour has it that SSBC is looking at a project on the Bonaparte (an important steelhead spawning tributary to the Thompson river). It will be a similar sort of deal as this years Spius creek rehabilitation project regarding habitat restoration.... and to that end we are looking at another pub night in November. Location will be somewhere in the Coquitlam/ Highway 1 corridor so that folks from the sunny side of the Fraser can attend....

There will be a live auction, silent auction, swag, etc etc, some kind of food special and just a great opportunity to socialize with a dedicated group of steelheaders. If you aren't a SSBC member, there will be membership forms available.

Once again we are asking concerned anglers to dig deep into their wallets and buck up. Its pretty painfully clear that federal and provincial governments could care less about our Thompson River steelhead resource so its up to grass roots initiatives like this, to mitigate the damage from habitat loss and brutally timed commercial salmon fisheries etc.

SSBC is planning a habitat restoration project on the Bonaparte River which is an important steelhead spawning tributary to the Thompson River. "Steelhead/Rainbow utilize the reach and instream complexing has been an objective for a while, but funding to undertake such works has not been available. The concept is that streambanks have been stabilized sufficiently from a previously degraded condition over the past 8 years as a result of successful streambank stabilization projects so that incorporation of some instream works using rock weirs and secured wood complexing along with riparian plantings are now feasible and would offer benefit to steelhead by improving local pool/riffle features. The landowners are very cooperative and have been really good partners on previous streambank projects. The rough cost for the project appears to be in the neighbourhood of $35-40 K, depending on the exact rock volumes."

SSBC is taking specific action that will have measurable positive effects on Thompson River Steelhead populations.

Its up to concerned anglers to lead the way showing that we won't sit idle. With your help we will make this project a success.

If you can't make it out to the Pub night, here is another way you can contribute: http://www.steelheadsociety.org/donate

Thank you

Ok...So Last year a great many of the long standing and newer BCFR members alike joined together to donate funds to the SSBC Spius Creek habitat restoration fundraiser.

We had a couple threads going,

many here were reaching into their pockets and donating to this great cause.

I can't say enough about how great it was to see all of you guys that give a damn leading by example.

If you weren't part of this last year, just want to refresh your memory, or need a few reasons why you should ante up, just take a look at these threads:

http://www.bcfishingreports.com/forums/threads/20512-Thompson-Fundraiser

http://www.bcfishingreports.com/forums/threads/20529-First-Steelhead-of-the-year-amp-on-the-fly-too-!

Here's to you guys...

You helped with something that made a difference to a very precious steelhead stock...!
(you know who you are, and we know who you are because your names are all in those threads)

We hope that you will all step up to the plate again this year too. There's a new project fundraiser for the Bonaparte this year. It is one of the major tributaries of the Thompson and integral top it's overall health and productivity.

Whether you donated last year or not, whether you attended the event or not, there are so many reasons to lend your support here this year.

Sure, maybe you can't make it to the event, you have commitments, family, a career, kids etc...that's understandable and don't let anyone ever give you any grief for not making it out, but there is still something you can do...

You can donate a few dollars...it doesn't have to be $50 or $100 or $1000, it can be any amount...not everyone can afford that, and we understand...but it all adds up.

If even just a few of us give 5-10$ it makes a difference.

If even just a few of you buy memberships this year, it helps the SSBC fund projects that help steelhead all over the province, let alone on the Thompson.

If you can afford to go fishing, If you enjoy this site that is provided to you for FREE...then you can donate to this project!!!

Last year was a resounding succcess and it was really, really great to see all of you donate a little time and/or money to the fundraiser for the spius creek project.

This year we are hoping you and hopefully even some more new members also step up and make a donation or buy a membership.

It's time to put your money where your mouth is,

If you enjoy fishing,

if you consider yourself a "fisherman",

if you like fishing for salmon, or trout...(because these habitat projects help the whole river, not just steelhead)

IF YOU LIKE FISHING FOR STEELHEAD,

then there is no excuse not to donate something.

If you fish, or have fished, the Thompson a hundred times, or even just a couple times in your life...

...maybe for chinook in the summer, or those beauty rainbows on the dry,

and yes, maybe even for those famous steelhead...

The Thompson river and the SSBC need your help.

Give a little something back to your fisheries people, this is the time to do it.

:cheers::cheers::cheers:

This is great guys...looks like Jesse, hue-nut, and even Dennist have bucked up as well, very cool!

To all of you who are members of BCFR,

you don't have to beat the last person's donation,

you don't even have to say how much you donated...

It could be 5$ or it could be $50, the point is to help out with a donation that is comfortable to you, and every bit counts!!!

We all benefit from the work done by the SSBC.

They don't just do habitat work on the Thompson, not in the least, they work hard to protect steelhead all over the province in many, many ways.

These are the people who put in the time and volunteer when the rest of us aren't able to, they are the ones rolling up their sleeves and getting things done on your behalf...

...and that's exactly the kind of organization that deserves your support
.

Keep the ball rolling guys...give a little something back to your fisheries.

Teaser from Brian Babcock:" I thought I would post a little pre-auction teaser for all you centerpin fans out there. Junior managed to talk me into parting with a very special blank for the fundraiser. I just finished building it and it turned out pretty sweet. This blank hasn't been around for decades and when it was made, it was very limited. It's a Sage 4106LLB. These were part of a "light line" series that was arguably ahead of it's time. I have built it in the traditional style with a short butt and downlocking seat. Because this blank was part of my working collection when I was designing rods for Sage, it does not have the Sage screenprint on it. I have hand written the make and model. And BTW, it's brown. See you Thursday!"

Its been a hectic month since we decided to run with this fundraiser and what a true success last night was.

Many thanks going out to all who donated their time, items and trips and to those who came and showed support. Even those who weren't SSBC members and simply came out to socialize ended up contributing. The venue, food, and service all earned high marks.

Last years bench mark was surpassed by a solid margin.

Everyone from old Thompson hands to folks who have never even caught a steelhead let alone a Thompson steelhead came together to make this habitat rehabilitation project a reality.

Thanks again.
