Sunday June 18th is the Whistler Angling Club's 6th annual catch and release derby on Alta Lake. This is a great event with lots of prizes and a free BBQ. As well there will be a lot of complimentary gear and boats available on a first come basis. Last year there were around 150 people involved and nobody left without a prize of some sort. The fishing in Alta has been very good with Rainbows (10"-20") and Cutthroat(12"-27") Trout. Last years winner measured just over 23" and there were many other good fish caught and released.

Tickets for this event are $15 for adults and $5 for kids including the entry fee, picnic and a chance at draw prizes(some fairly large prizes). Registration for the derby takes place at Lakeside park between 8 and 9 am. Fishing starts at 9am with the BBQ starting around noon. This really is an excellent event, especially for kids and everyone is welcome.

After lunch we will once again be hosting a fun casting contest at the park with prizes. This year it will be a 5 weight distance event with both recreational and pro divisions.

The lake will also be stocked with another batch of sterilized Cutthroat(1000) AFTER the derby so it will be a neat opportunity for kids to see large numbers of fish in shallow water.

If anybody is interested and would like more information please call the
Whistler Fly Shop at 604-932-7221. I hope to see some of you there and remember that Sunday is BC's free fishing day so a good time to bring out someone who has never fished before.
