After a brutal week around the house and no relief in sight for next week or so, I decided to use the one day window between events to hit the river for a few hrs....Today was a record for "first casts"...After parking on the road and taking the short walk to the river, I noticed there were a couple of guys in one of "my fav. spots", so I finished rigging up and noticed a nice piece of water on the other side which was a little difficult to reach, but decided to try it anyway.
Out goes the "first cast"........right into the overhanging branches!!.......complete re-tie is in order.
Move downriver a bit and hit a fish on "first cast" # 2.....360 degree turn, thru some rocks and bye bye!
Another hr. on the river produces nothing, except a short chat with Hook set and Coho cody...nice meeting you guys! Hope you had some luck after my departure...
Headed off to my next river and after climbing down a steep, slippery bank that grabbed me halfway down and turned me into a mud covered rag mop, I got to the bottom and "first cast" again.........beautiful little 'bow of a pound or so....nothing for the next hr. so I left.
River # 3 produces a really nice rock on the "first cast" which also collected some of my gear, so another re rig was in order. Once again, after pounding some really nice water for an hr. or so, I left and decided to fish the water right where I parked the car...Nice egg bag, "first cast", float down, and gone. Check the bag and two eggs punctured. Quickly re rig with a different colour egg ,"first cast", FISH ON....this time, there is some weight on the end of the line and after the usual unspirited tussle, a nice 4-5 lb. dolly (bull trout) comes to hand.
I just posted recently on these fish showing up this time of the year in a variety of rivers, and you never see them the rest of the year.
So there is my day....triple rivers and a day of "firsts"........Ortho 8)
