“Life and fishing…” (Part 1)

Fishing…For some it is a passing fancy. Little more than a distraction for the kids, or an escape on a family camping trip allowing for some solitude and perhaps a fish, (of whatever size), as a “trophy” for the dinner table. For others it is a passion, a medicinal dose against the rigors of everyday life that must be taken regularly and does so much good its value can hardly be described. Something as regular as the tides, a sport and inspiration that one can always come back to whatever the season. As with most of our passions in life, often our daily responsibilities, commitments, careers and aspirations can get in the way of what we want to do. Regardless of age and responsibility, family commitments, school or work, everyone who knows the passion for the sport of fishing will understand and immediately sympathize with the plight of being unable to load up the truck and escape to a world that is so much more vibrant and alive than the concrete and steel trap of the city.

Responsibility…What a harsh but simple and necessary fact of life, interfering with our recreation, our pass times, passions and peace and quiet so much so that at times it almost feels that we will never see them again…

The clouds stacked up against the mountains, broken up by blue sky and gusty early spring winds as the morning drive away from the traffic lights and horns had begun. It was all right in front of him, and yet with the “all work and no play” trend in his life of late, the telephones and faxes seemed to somehow try to follow him as he attempted to make his escape. It was surreal, the comprehension that finally after so long, he would actually manage to fish for a while and not have to attend to this or take care of that…it had been a long time coming.
