For those members who might be interested, there will be a cleanup of a section of the Allouette River on January 27th. Meet at Maple Ridge Park (just north of the 232nd st. bridge over the river) at 8am.
The last cleanup was fun, and this time I believe there will be a BBQ & BS session following the cleanup. I caught my first steelhead in this stream, and it continues to produce for me to this day in spite of all the polluters.........Hope to see you there!.........Ortho 8)

I think this is a very good cause and well worth the extra effort for all of us...We should all make the effort to get out there and help clean up our rivers... I am going to do my damndest to get out there for this, anyone else wanna get on board? For all the days we spend on the river fishing, I think it speaks volumes to the character quality of those who take a day out to pay something back...We should get off our ass's and lend a helping hand guys...

Too Funny!! The funny part was it was inside a tent that was submerged in the river which also had a bunch of clothes in it.......Bad date, I guess...... ;D.. ;D.........Ortho 8)

The parks and rec people provide mechanical pick up tools for the river for the cans/bottles/ and other stuff...The stuff along the shoreline , some of which cannot be moved, etc. would require work gloves to protect the hands.....One group will do the available shoreline on each segment of the river and others will be wading the river inspots to get all the crap out of the water. Areas will be assigned by the co-ordinator of the event at the meeting place
It;s not back breaking work and we will not be doing the whole river, just selected spots that see a lot of traffic.......Orthol 8).

Ortho,,,,very funny story and a heck of a way to win the prize. Sounds like a weekend gone very wrong!

I'm going to try to make it to this as well. I may also have to be at the bike show, I havent got my schedule yet but I volunteered to help out a friend that has a booth there.

I havent fished the Ally before, what kind of gear should I bring? Lighter than what I would use on the Vedder?

I'm going to the bike show on Sunday. Will be at the BCCOM booth with the bride from 10-1pm. We ride with the Star Touring & Riding Assn. and are lending a hand to our friends at BCCOM for the weekend to help promote and sell memberships.....As far, as Saturday goes, we should be all finished by 1pm and I would bring a little lighter gear than the Vedder, but if it stays cool, there will be very little water to fish in, and the prospects could be a little poor....Probably be better to hit the Stave with the same gear you would use on the Vedder.....Hope to see ya there...Ortho 8)

Excellent, thx Ortho,,, I will be definately be coming to the river cleanup. I got word, I will be working at the show Thursday and Saturday evenings. I will be at the Open Road Driver Training booth. I may pop by Sunday just to see you and am very interested in talking to you about the Star Touring group. I just started riding a street bike last year (after many years dirt biking).

Any idea how long this event will take? I'm intersted, live up the hill in Silver Ridge maybe 1 km away but work graveyard shift on friday night until 7am. Might be able to talk my neighbour into it as well. We both are trying to get into fishing more. Good chance to meet some people with the same interests.

Never really posted here before today. Glad to see this topic is on here as well.

I am the organizer of the event. Some of you may recognize me from other forums under the name:bbronswyk2000

If you have any direct questions fire them at me.

Event: Alouette River Cleanup
Where: Maple Ridge Park on 232nd
Date: Jan 27th
Time: 8am
Back at the park by: 11:45am

A photographer from the Maple Ridge News will be on hand at noon to take some photos of the group and the garbage we collect. I encourage people to bring a digital camera if they have one to take photos during their cleanup.

Lunch well begin at noon in the park where we will be having hamburgers and hotdogs. This is being provided but if anyone wants to pitch in by bringing a salad or some snacks thats great.
