When I was in Australia a few years back my one trinket I brought back was an Alvey rod and reel designed for shore casting. Unfortunately while washing sand and salt out of my reel after a few beach pops at 3 in the morning and releasing numerous sand sharks I lost a spring that engages the anti reverse... meaning my Alvey is now a show piece.

Anyone know of a creative reel repair shop that might be able to fashion me a new spring... or better yet source one from Alvey?

Has anyone ever used one of these things? They can Huck a bait rig a LONG ways into the surf. Might have some great applications on the Fraser for some Sturgeon. Could use them like a mooching reel to I suppose for trolling. Look them up.. very unique design.

Many thanks

They sure do arrgh! nifty invention... very hard to find service for them. I was on alveys website today and found the part manuals so I may be able to order my parts direct from Alvey in aussi.

They are the ultimate open face reel. with a 1:1 retrieve.
