I was hiking up by the lighthouse in west van & when looking down the rocks it seems pretty deep. does anyone know if you can catch anything off those rocks or is it to shallow? there even seems to be some great spots to land them if caught, but the question is can you really catch anything out there & if so what can i use
thanks

mabey i am not sure, but its when you hike up to the light house in west van there are some areas that you can just sit on the rocks & be within 2 feet of the deep water. its right next to the light house!
I didnt even know there were limits to where you could fish along there. Good thing ya told me or id be in trouble..lol.
do ya think ya know where im talkin about?

Schlock, Point Atkinson, and Whytecliff Park are closed to fishing. The DFO has, or is going to close a lot more of these "close in " areas as well. If you could fish in these areas, would would find lots of small rockfish, and lingcod. The problem is, that these fish are slow growers, and they tend to live in very confined areas around reefs on the bottom. This makes them easy to find, and being aggressive biters easy to catch. There is no way that they could ever withstand the pressure that their proximity to Vancouver will put them under. Another strike against these fish is their high mortality rate when caught, they are small, you pull them up from the deep too fast and they're done! As with most fish in these parts, you will always find groups that will poach almost anything that you can eat, so that's why we leave them alone!

well thanks for the heads up guys, i didnt wanna take my chances & get nail'd.
as for the guys that fish off the pier down there along ambleside, i notice we speak alot about a good release & good landing spots. Do you guys not agree that peir fishin is just plain cruel. i saw these guys pullin them in & just whippin them over the rail, i think thats nuts, & wouls like to hear what others think on this topic.
thanks
