I am hoping for advice on backpacking lures and nets to use in SW BC. I will be using a Shakespeare Ugly Stick and Shimano reel. Some people have already suggested Panther Martin, Black Mepps and Blue Fox. And, of course, the ubiquitous worm! More suggestions would always be welcome along with ideas for a small light weight net. Thanks!

if you want a good catch and release net thas very light. I would go with one of the wooden handled fly fishing nets  very light and perfect if you plan to let some of your fish go unharmed. I do have to warn you though that these nets arent super cheap but well worth the $$

Don't forget about flies, small package with lots of wollop! Brings to mind a young man fishing at Roche Lake that had hoped to get a boat from the lodge which turns out was reserving them for cabin guests, so he was stuck with casting from shore. Wasn't having much luck so I tried rigging him up with a longer leader from his float with a Blood Leach. Had him fire it out past the weeds and let it sit for a minute to become a part of the lake then ever so slowly reel it back in and third cast took a very nice 15" trout. Left him with a grin and a few extra flies to try. Could do the same in creeks and rivers with a small split-shot or two if needed.

Luck to you,
Ger
