I know in the regs it says barbless hooks when fishing for salmon. I just need some clarification.
Do you have to be barbless when fishing for halibut or ling? What would happen if you were lowering your hali rig and a salmon took it on the way down? ???

Never seen a Salmon grab a big Halibut jig but have had a Coho grab one of those Rockfish jigs I posted on earlier in the week.It was a small jig and a big Coho and I just about sh*t when he streaked up and grabbed it.

Wasn't quite sure what to do it was an isolated spot with no one around for miles but if there's a time a Fisheries Officer will show up.....

So I just hauled hard/busted him off.

You were aiming for halibut, and you did not have to use barbless hooks.
Nothing defines what to do if you catch salmon on a gear intended for other fish.
If you have salmon tag on your valid license and if it is retainable salmon, I believe it is legal to keep the catch.
