So just got back from the Thanksgiving brew-ha ha up at Beaver lake. Weather was nice and cool...couple of the puddles are frozen now.
As for the fishing...it was just as cool. Got a couple 6 inchers off the dock quick-stripping olive scuds and laying black #16 buzzers in the film. Talk about fun ::)
Hit the water, I ended up being the guide for some trollers. Got one of the guys into a 16 incher on a maroon leach with some red crystal flash. I usually get into fish by the bay with the submerged log. Like clockwork.

Not too much in the way of hatches...there was something happening one of the evenings but whatever was coming off was sitting in the bottom half of the surface film and I never got details.

I don't get the vibe this is much of a flyfishing lake. Maybe it was the milfoil...reminds me of okanagan lake.

meh, ice will be on soon enough.

A'yup. However, in warmer weather there are somne decent hatches. Green dragonfly nymphs and green and burgundy leeches have always produced for me on an intermediate sinking line trolled near drop offs. Standard stuff.

Fished it today, and it was slow. Got a really nice 20 incher however on a black rabbitt strip leech on a sinking line right out in front of the resort and then another on a green leech pattern in the middle of the lake twenty minutes later but that was it for the day! I am not complaining since most of ther other folks fishing gear caught cookie cutters all day long.

Fished it yesterday. There was a major algae bloom and the water was very dark. We didn't get a sniff in 4 hours trying lots of fly patterns and even gear. As a last ditch desparate attempt of trying to get my nephew his first rainbow, we tried a worm on a wedding band and a Lucky Strike gang troll with 1 ounce of weight twenty feet up from the 'presentation'. He'll be heading back to Alberta without crossing catching a rainbow off his bucket list. Beauty day on the water. The biggest baddest longest thunderstorm in the Okanagan's history http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story-63733-1-.htm#63733 rolled over us as we just finished covering up the boat on the trailer for the drive home.

Heading up again this Thanksgiving...methinks I might have to pack up the boat and try some of the other lakes surrounding it. I don't need specifics (although they'd be appreciated :)) but are the lakes up in that area about equally productive?

Lots of much better lakes up that road bronjuan. One of the easiest to find and get to with gov't rec site and half decent launch is Doreen. Straight up the road about 15 km more (?)- don't quote me on that, google it and you'll see it there. Past that there are a number of other good lakes too. I tend to fish off the connector more than up there, but BGM can probably give you some advice as well. good luck

There's Doreen for sure but also Deer Lake that can be good. Fly fish 1 and 2 are decent. Aileen has some pigs but very moody. Dee has very catchable numbers but not too big. At that time of year, Beaver will be better.

Fished Beaver this afternoon, mostly to try out the new rig and she did well, except when running or trolling in a bit of a chop, then it was banging non stop on the bow.

Water temp was 68 and no sign of an algae bloom like the last time I went.

Fishing was slow, brought 2 bows to the boat on a size 12 olive green brushed leech with a gold bead head on the slime line. Trolling to find fish was tricky with 30 kph winds and never bothered anchoring with another storm rolling in.
