I just got some fly gear and I was hoping somebody could tell me a place to fish for trout or steelhead.
I live in Vancouver and I dont have a boat so I would have to fish from shore.

Thanks

Sounds like the Chilliwack/Vedder system is going to be on your list this winter for steelhead, Zzero. Exactly what type of fly gear did you acquire? Any chance a strong 8wt with a good multi-tip system are part of your collection? You'll pretty much need it for fishing winter steelhead on the fly.

So there's no place closer to Vancouver?
This time of the year? It would probably take you just as long to drive and explore the Squamish area. Some dollies and the occassional steel there.

You could try the Allouette, and there are a number of smaller streams around the lower mainland that you could try, but no-one is going to come right out and name any of them for you. Buy a copy of Backroads Map Book-Southwestern BC edition and look there. I think Stone is trying to put you on the stream that will give you the most likelyhood of hooking up. You mentioned steelhead in your initial post, so that also plays into the streams that will be available to you. Streams close to Vancouver, generally are not very productive, the result of being degraded by development and over fished by the virtue of their being located in the middle of 2,000,000 people. The only real fishing opportunities are to be found by making an effort and working a bit for the experience.
