Vancouver Fishing Report, Aug 23rdThe last week has definately been an exciting one with some solid fishing for big chinook up to 30 pounds. The Fraser Mouth and Vancouver Harbour have both seen some very good numbers of chinook! The last couple days have been a little tougher though as a pod of killer whales went on a feeding frenzy and put the chinooks off the bite a bit. We still managed to hook some nice fish yesterday and today, but not nearly the numbers we did on the weekend or late last week. The report from the whale watch operations is that the whales have moved off and so we should see fishing pick back up very quickly.
Anchovies, herring, and hootchies have all been taking there fair share of fish. There has been a lot of shakers (8 inch baby salmon around) around. So if you find that they are messing up your bait, switch to artificials or bigger herring, it will keep your gear working and not hurt the little guys.
In the not to distant future we will see the West Vancouver Chinook fishery start! If you have not experienced it, check it out! It is a unique big chinook salmon fishery that takes place minutes from downtown Vancouver. From our fishing docks at Granville Island and Coal Harbour it is less than a 10 minute run. The fishery picks up in the second week of September and can last till late October if it is a dry fall. Give us a call or email to book the best tides!! The fall chinook fishery is best from the middle of Septmber to the middle of October! Check out this video we shot with our good friend Rick Clark of the World Fishing Network last October!
