Vancouver Saltwater Report, June 12, 2007
June is typically the transitional period in our local fishery in Vancouver. The first big push of Coho’s along the West Van shoreline should be around the 25th of June. The big run of Squamish Chinooks should also begin to stage in local waters in late June as well. In the meantime we have been fishing primarily over on the Gulf Islands side of the Strait. Fishing on that side has remained consistent as it has all spring. There are good numbers of chinook in the 8-20 pound range . There was a couple in the mid 20’s caught last week as well. We have been fishing between 80 feet and 180 feet depending on which spot we are fishing. Chovies, coyotes, and green splatterback hootchies have all been producing.
Crabbing in Vancouver harbour has been awesome. Summer is almost here and we should see the first big batch of migratory fish in the next couple weeks!
