BON CHOVY SALTWATER REPORT, JUNE 30, 2007

The local fishery has started to rebound after a lull for the entire month of June. We are starting to see the first of the big Squamish chinook show up in Howe Sound. This fishery seems to really perk up around the first of July every year. These fish average between 18 and 25 pounds with a few of the nicer ones reaching the mid 30's. Areas to concentrate on for these fish include Hole in the Wall, Hutt Island, Tunstall, and upper Howe Sound. These fish tend to be fairly deep 80-170 feet. There has also been a lot of undersize in the Vancouver Harbour/Point Grey area mixed in with the odd decent fish. We are still awaiting the first push of Coho off West Van, should be any day now!

During the last few weeks we have been running over to the Gulf Islands on our charters on a regular basis and have had good success off Thrasher Rock and the Grande. The fish over on that side have been averaging in the mid teens, real nice quality. There is still lots of bait on that side and fishing has continued to be consistent for Chinooks. The Gulf Islands have had a really strong year for Chinooks so far.

The pinks, coho, and chinook should be off West Van in the next few weeks as well!

Call us to book a charter!
