Took my 4 year old out to Browne last weekend and again this Sunday morning and had some great action both times. Last weekend in 1 hour we landed one 2 lb'er and my son lost 3 others, while on this Sunday we had four to the boat and lost at least that many in 4 hours. Biggest about 2 lbs, all put up a good scap. Tough to beat watching your son realing like hell trying to bring in a 2 lb bow on a 3 weight (in the snow no less). Small green shrimp, chromies, and the usual red bunny leach were the meals of the day.

sounds like a great trip Sparky!

Is he casting that little 3 weight yet?
My guess is in a couple years he'll likely be putting the ole double haul into that thing!
maybe even out casting dad?
thx for the report,

Yup, it was snowing. Nothing sticking on the ground though. When I was up near Geen/South area cutting wood last weekend there was a skiff on the ground, but up there today cutting near Meadow it was much warmer and wet.

Rib, can't wait till he outcasts me! Although it is a Sage XP 9 ft 3 Wt with a beautiful fiddleback maple handle that we're talking about, so I think I'll build him his own weapon this winter- something that won't make me cringe (as much) when he abuses it as he will. Any suggestions for a first fly rod for a 4-5 year old anyone?
