Posted this in the salt forum, but maybe someone from over here can help me out.

I have a friend getting married in early May at Painters and a couple of us were thinking if it is "worthwhile" of heading over a few days early to do some fishing. Is that a bit early or are things fairly decent at that time?

There's decent fish in may for sure. If you cant find the early big ones you can still have a ball on winter feeder springs still in the area averaging 12-15lbs. Any time on the water is good time on the water !

I agree with the sentiment of being on the water. I think a few guys are just concerned about paying $$$ to get out for the day and have it a bit of a futile trip for catching fish.

I am going to e-mail Painters but they will likely tell me something like the fishing is outstanding, but I wanted a 'non-biased' opinion.

Those Painters guides are pretty good at finding fish pretty much anytime of the year.
