I'm going to be on the mainland for the Provincial lacrosse championships and I'm wondering where I should be fishing at that time of year. I'm leaving the pontoon at home (van full of kids instead) but I'll be tossing the flyline so clearance is required. I'll also be leaving the waders at home.

I want to start tying now so I'm prepared

No choice. I'm lucky if I'll have enough room for 2 rods and my chestpack :pissed: I'm the manager for the team so I'm carrying all the luggage, 5 kids and a wife...and Advil

ha ha you wont need waders in July :beerchug: i fish without mine from about June till October depending where im fishing of course  fishing the Vedder for Red springs should be a good bet at that time, hope you have an 8wt at least ;D i have only caught my springs on muddlers and this one orange/red fly not sure the name but it wasnt big at all. tie up some beadhead muddlers in Natural and Olive and i would bet you will get more fly suggestions from others to tie up

Some summer run steel to be had, smaller runs though, could be tough fishing particularly on the fly and if you're new to the flows in question.

Summer coho on the cap as well, might be able to entice some of those on minnow patterns through the frog water that's bound to occur during the heat of summer.

A few other options lake and stream wise, but not much in the way of larger fish...

Where are you going to "set up camp", so to speak, once you get down here 11th...? Maybe we can come up with more concrete advice...

Thanks for all the advice and PM's guys. Much appreciated.

I currently have a 6WT, but with much persuasion (ie: nagging) I have convinced my beloved other half that an 8wt is also necessary for the bigger fish  More to follow on that front. The Skagit sounds like an excellent option. I'm just looking to get a line wet on some bows or maybe even some smallies if they're over there (I need an excuse to tie up some poppers, LOL).

I'm not sure where we're going to be staying yet Ribwart. More than likely we'll be at a Days Inn or something similar. Every team from around the province will be there so it's going to be hectic.

You could always have a ton of fun dry flying on the Vedder during those months for the Steelhead smolts I guess. It quite fun (They will hit anything that looks like a bug on top of the water), just remember that those are our future Steelhead stocks so all the ones I catch get released back after a very quick fight. Biggest one I caught last year was around 18 inches, most likely a resident rainbow, also got 3 or 4 dolly's last year during june on Doc Spratley's.

Ummm isn't the chedder closed in June to all angling? Angling for steelhead smolts does not help the run at all in my mind, so I wouldn't suggest it and wonder why its even allowed to happen?

Lol opps.... I meant July lol. That is true dont fish in June because you'll get nailed, my friend tried doing it. And yea I mostly catch the smolts by accident but when they hit its fun to watch because they come right up to the top.

please dont target the smolts guys :naughty: as someone already said MOST of them are going to head to the ocean and become our future steelhead. some do stay to become resident bows but who knows which ones LOL I myself dont fish anything small enough that they can grab or want to grab :beerchug: and yes those fierce little buggers will grab almost anything :'( and please when your out there and see idiots catching them and then "tossing" them back into the water give them what for !! i see numerous dead ones all over every year :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I also see quite a few dead ones..... but most are missing their bodies. Stuff like that ticks me off because why kill something less than a pound when you could kill it in 4 years when it weighs 8-20 pounds. I didn't mean to start all of this, like I said I never really target them and any ones that I catch I quickly let go. I hate when I see people fishing them on purpose, and when they are too small they reel them 4 feet outts the water and trow em back in. And yes these things will hit anything, I've caught the fishing for Red Springs, etc on roe and red wool.

First you tell 11th that he should go to the vedder for smolts.. then you say you hate when people target them?... if you hate it so much why tell other to target them, its not like their isnt already a big enough crowd that target these fish anyway. :wallbash:
