I know chum isn't as revered here as much as the other salmonids. But hey, on the fly, it's a battle and a half! and it's hard to beat a chromer on the smoker!
It looks like the chum run is having a good start on the Vedder, and out in the chuck, things are happening!

My dad-in-law, just had his first seine, fall chum opening, in several years, up on the top-end of the Island...in the Straits. It was a very short opening for the seiners, but I guess the run is massive, and the chum are making their way down here in a big way! They said they saw chum splashing, running, finning, and jumping everywhere. These chum are heading towards the Fraser, and I imagine a good chunk of that are Vedder hogs. These were early chrome-brights up there. The chum don't peak up there mid-Oct, so there will be more yet to come. The good news is that when the chum peak, there will be no opening up there then. So bad for the seiners, but good for us sporties. Lots of fish! I guess the next opening for them won't be until Halloween, when the run tapers off up there.
I just thought this would be info worth sharing.
