I know chum isn't as revered here as much as the other salmonids. But hey, on the fly, it's a battle and a half! and it's hard to beat a chromer on the smoker!

It looks like the chum run is having a good start on the Vedder, and out in the chuck, things are happening! :peace:

My dad-in-law, just had his first seine, fall chum opening, in several years, up on the top-end of the Island...in the Straits. It was a very short opening for the seiners, but I guess the run is massive, and the chum are making their way down here in a big way! They said they saw chum splashing, running, finning, and jumping everywhere. These chum are heading towards the Fraser, and I imagine a good chunk of that are Vedder hogs. These were early chrome-brights up there. The chum don't peak up there mid-Oct, so there will be more yet to come. The good news is that when the chum peak, there will be no opening up there then. So bad for the seiners, but good for us sporties. Lots of fish! I guess the next opening for them won't be until Halloween, when the run tapers off up there.

I just thought this would be info worth sharing.

Thanks for the update, chum are often an overlooked sportfish, but over the years they seem to be more and more fished for, which is great! I love floating jigs and tossing fly's for chum...one word defines these fish.....BRUTE!

oh ya and 288 chum in the test fishery today to....hmmmm I think all the rivers will be seeing them now!

everyone over looks a chrome chum... i guess there too caught up in coho... all i hear is get any coho, where are the coho, i dont really see the appeal, the vedder ones dont taste that great, there roe is not my favourite and a chrome chum will outclass a coho in fighting skills plus there roe is mint.
