Decided to not waste time at the Stamp and go visit the Cowichan for some winter fly fishing.
Not the best day (Tuesday, Feb. 5) as the wind was up pretty good and the rain was basically constant. Started at the Spring Pool and worked down towards the Tressle....
Water started off pretty good...basically low for the Cowichan at this time of year. Thought just maybe something would happen....but as the rains continued...up came the river and color was off pretty fast. Didn't turn a fish although I was focused on Steelies.
On my way out I ran into the Creel Survery guy...his thoughts:
1. 3 fish hooked on the river this day...one landed...a medium brown...all by gear guys
2. River is better than the Stamp but not much...been cold up their since early Dec...with quite a bit of snow.
3. Lower river seems to be the area of choice.
4. Guides are basically backing off trips until things improve.
So...what's left for the Island...no Stamp, not much in the Cowichan...any reports on the Gold.
