Crappies ????

I hear Whonnock lake has crappies , how do I get to whonnock lake ???? What is the best method to catch them ???? Can you catch them from shore or is a boat needed ????

You can get to whonnock from lougheed,left on 272 or 280th . Its in between those two roads just cant remember the road you turn on. Google map it since our on the computer. I was hitting them on the fly. Boat would help your cause just not necessary. Allthough I wouldn't go without one. No motors !

Tons of them ranging in size from 10-20cm, try small jigs and flies, they are crazy now.

Fishing from boat is better, but you also can fish on the decks. The park also leases kick boat for $25/per day.

Accessed from Dewdney Trunk rd, turn right onto 272nd st, then turn left on 112th ave and follow the signs.

I made it out to whonnack lake last week-end and nothing was biting , tried jigs ,flies and even worms . What part of the lake is best ?

from the shore between the two docks head straight out
at around 100 yds you will go over some Lillie's that
should be just below the surface and run parallel with the shore line
That's were they hide
They will hit any type of bright fly
once your fly starts to sink just give quick short strips
Once you hook one stay there they tend to school a lot
I got one a few years back that was 14inch
barley fit in my landing net

I caught a handfull of them today at the Sturgeon slough of Neaves RD, biggest was maybe 8 inches long. Also landed about 30 bass in 2 hours using needlefish patterns, they shredded two new flies in no time. Had so much fun that I ran into Hatch Matchers and picked up a 3wt rod and ran back to tickle another 5 fish, alot more fun than using the 6wt.

yeah hatzic lake fish the bridge crossing the lougheed if your going toi ahve a boat then you will ahve more fun b

I was fishing the other dock not the one with the boats tied up , casting between the docks ,just off the lily pads . There were no raisers anywhere . Is it too late in the season or was it just an off day ? The gate opens rather late 8am .

Very interesting reports there peeps! I've always wanted to try for Crappie...thanks for the locations! All I need now is a 3 wt.! LOL
