Its been kind of breezy and cold on Elk Lake this week. Last week, I hit a couple of good sized rainbows by towing an olive wooley bugger from my pontoon boat.
it usually alway half decent to really good for bows up to 5-6lbs. small mouths sould pick up with a few days warmer weather. there are also large mouth in there now???
whats the color of powerbait being used there now? i do not fly fish so this is what i'll be using! thanx
pink, orange or chartruse rainbow works well. best bet would be the highway spot
i fished the fishing dock years ago with green power bait worked pretty good cought 6 in in about as many hrs all around 14 inches kept one for dinner not to bad i had fun!
If you want to fish the highway side of elk lake, there is a very productive spot about 500 yards from the end of the beach adjacent to the rowing club. You can park at the rowing club parking area and then follow the path from the beach that parallels the highway. There is a cleared spot at the waters edge and the bank fishers seem to clean uo at this spot .
You two figure the highway is better than the dock? With a bobber or on the bottom? What about from a canoe? And, are you fishing those buggers deep? I guess what I really want to know is, how's the water temp... are the fish still deep or are they on the move?
I only ask because it looks like I'll have a few free hours free on Tuseday, and the fish should start happening any day now. I am trying to improve my odds.
Fish the highway side on the bottom. If you are using a canoe, just tow a fly deep. Usually olive wooly buggers, beadheads or a leech. But paddle slow or just drift with the breeze if it isn't too fresh.
highway side it is then! i'm there a week from tomorrow just have to spend th later morrning and early afternoon there! hope i can find the honey hole! thanx!!!!!!

On Wednesday I was out at the fishing dock at elk lake and saw 2 big rainbows caught on bright green powerbait eggs one was caught with a worm in combo with bright green powerbait. One fish was 23inches and the other was about 20inches. Good luck
