Its been kind of breezy and cold on Elk Lake this week. Last week, I hit a couple of good sized rainbows by towing an olive wooley bugger from my pontoon boat.

If you want to fish the highway side of elk lake, there is a very productive spot about 500 yards from the end of the beach adjacent to the rowing club. You can park at the rowing club parking area and then follow the path from the beach that parallels the highway. There is a cleared spot at the waters edge and the bank fishers seem to clean uo at this spot .

You two figure the highway is better than the dock? With a bobber or on the bottom? What about from a canoe? And, are you fishing those buggers deep? I guess what I really want to know is, how's the water temp... are the fish still deep or are they on the move?
I only ask because it looks like I'll have a few free hours free on Tuseday, and the fish should start happening any day now. I am trying to improve my odds.

Fish the highway side on the bottom. If you are using a canoe, just tow a fly deep. Usually olive wooly buggers, beadheads or a leech. But paddle slow or just drift with the breeze if it isn't too fresh.

just got off the phone with a bud from vic and he's been fishing elk lake lots in the past few weeks and his biggest was a 4 1/2 lb rainbow trout and is not having no problem catching fish in the double digits everyday!!! his bait of choice is orange or green power bait fished on the north side of the lake off the fishing pier!!! i'm gonna fish it on the long weekend at the end of the month as well as fish the saltchuck around oakbay for salmon and halibut!!!
