This afternoon my 11 y/o son and I went fishing just down the road from us on the banks of the Fraser in the Glen Valley. It was almost high tide when we arrived around 4pm.
At first, it was pretty quiet, both in terms of fish and fishers. But once most got off work and the tide was at its max, the fishers and the fish showed up.
It was my son's first time fishing for pinks and he had a really good time. All kids need to have a good time is to catch something. Anything!
I hooked up first and handed the rod to him. He really wasn't sure what to do, so I tried to talk him through it. He did well for a first timer and the fish co-operated. We beach n' bonked her. She'll be delish on the BBQ.
The next one I landed was a nice male. He was a bit scrappier than his predecesor.
Finally, the best fight of all was the second female and she didn't want to go peacefully. It was about 5:15 and we had to head home for dinner. It was literally my last cast. She hit the lure about 15' in front of me and started tugging. Gotta love the sound of the reel spinning as it lets out line. It took a few minutes to get her under control, then we beached n' bonked her, too. Another one for the BBQ or maybe the smoker.
As you can see the fish are still in really nice shape. The females had some nice roe and I'm curing it for the sturgeon.
All in all we had a good time. Looks like we'll be back down after school again tomorrow and we'll let my son do all the work, this time.
FishFreak - didn't see you out there today. Looked for you, though.
