This forum is great - Have learned lots by reading posts....

Been fishing in the lower mainland for 15 odd years and have had some limited success. In Surrey there is a spot underneath the Sky train bridge which has been really ticking me off for some time. For one I could never catch a thing there and for second the amount of garbage left by fishermen on the beach is making east hasings look really nice right about now. I live in Surrey and I know it is sometimes dirty and yeah I know the Lower Fraser is a polluted nighmare ........BUT come on people !! this is local fishermen Garbage...Lets try to keep this one little spot clean. There was a general clean up done about 1 week ago and the crap that came out of this site would shock you........ Anyways enough ranting.

I have seen several people land nice pinks, cohos and the odd spring on this beach using several methods. I have stuck to casting and trolling with Buzz bombs ranging from red to silver with nothing to show for it.
Tried roe with the whole var rig set up but nothing agian...

Has anyone tried fishing there lately?.. What methods do you recomend ...

I know its not the best place on earth to go fishing but for us who work 60 hour a week... its nice to just get to fishing within 20 minutes of getting off work...

I'd also like to hear other's experiences for catching cohos, springs, or chums (not pinks though ). Is it worth going there and if so, what seems to work best? On low tide I also heard! Cheers.

Bar fish with a bar rig, and roe. Also, try spin and glows on the bar rig. You need a bit of weight to so the rig stays put in the current or tide. I've caught Springs there before, but bar fishing is more for socializing, learning from the experienced guys out there and hearing fishing stories, but it is productive, when the fish are around.

Fished there a few years ago often.
Seemed like a lot of retirees would come down there to bar fish and chew the fat.
The same people almost every day.
Try and stay close to the skytrain bridge side from what I remember the riprap closer to the Patullo has a lot of snags.
This was a few years ago they may be cleaned out now though.

good dogg roe and a bar rig and some R&R will do the trick there.

How do you keep the roe from getting destoryed by the coarse fish? or from catching sturgeon, for that matter?

Try roe sacks or a good pair of panty hoes.... Marko

Everybody cures their roe differently. For bar fishing the Fraser, I always liked a more firm cured roe. In a snaggy location the more times you have to reel in to check your bait, the greater of a chance you'll snag bottom. To cure eggs so that they will hold on the hook better and fish longer, use a mix of 3 parts sugar one part salt. Leave eggs in the cure until firm, but don't let them get hard.
