Flossing , it's definition

I know this has been discussed many times, but since I have not heard of this before(until I fished the Frasier this year), I would like some additional information.

I recall that I briefly glanced over a post on this subject by Rick Baerg( i think it was him) that seemed to give a comprehensive discussion of flossing. Now I can't find it. Can someone direct me to this post so I can read it in its entirety? Thanks.

Have you checked the Sin BIN? Usually when people start talking about flossing after about 10 posts the topic goes there

Salmon season is just starting, only another 3 months of it. Then there's steelhead season.... :-\
Ok I will bite with a strait answer, then maybe this one can be put to bed. When a fish holds or swims it will open and close it's mouth in conjunction with it's breathing.

Flossing is fishing with the intent to run your leader line through the mouth of a fish while it is breathing. The hook will then be lodged in the side of the fishes mouth.

It is often used to hook fish that are not known for biting. It is a legal method of fishing although many question the ethics behind it, since the fish are not actually biting.

Not my fault, I have protested this fishery from day 1. Maybe if more people made a stand on this fishery instead of saying I only floss on the Fraser for sockeye and then get pissed off when it starts to happen on Vedder and can't understand why.

Correct for $1000 Bill

True but they have now brought it to the other rivers for all salmon unfortunatly.

Correct for another $1000 Flyguy

I've been saying this since 1998 about the carryover effect sockeye snagging has had on lower mainland streams in particular to nothing but laughing audiences, not to many people laughing nowadays.....
Thanks to mrmugs and pat av ( and others) for an informative response to a topic that not only irritates some people, but elicits some obnoxious and sarcastic responses.

It seems to me that this forum is intended to inform and create meaningful dialgoue between people who not just want to catch fish, but want to be enlightened on different aspects of fishing. Possibly to the end of making one more aware of their environment and learning that there may be more to fishing than just catching fish. Perhaps I am wrong.
Flossing topics, and the gradual division of the sportsfishers on this site and others is a form of cancer. It spreads very slowly with no real sign of disease, then the debates begin as to the form of treatment that may be required, and in many cases, treatment is refused or not available, and the real passion of the fisher ignites and lights up the forum boards.....Those that wish to see this topic disappear, will likely see a lot more of it in the future. .......Ortho 8)
