The problem with that statement from fisheries is they request anglers to use more selective methods. This does not say that BBing is restricted. I personally don't think that we are going to see any difference on the river. The people who BB with 10 + ft leaders will still do the same thing. Until they put a restriction on leader size or eliminate BBing all together there will not be any change. At least that is what I think. DFO needs to grow some Ba**s!

blah blah blah another flossing thread is in the works.....best bet we have is tapping people on the shoulder and asking them politely to consider short leaders......cuz the dfo don't have the resources to police it

Ah c'mon guys, don't back out now.....just when things are getting good and BORING.
You know, I really love this site, but it is interesting how some topics take up so much ink at times, when they have already been thrashed a hundred times or more. DFO/First Nations nets/ flossing....AAaaarrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!
5 Salt Fevers report from the West Coast of the Island was the best post on this site in months. Too bad it's a bit too technical for some of our members or surely they would have found fault at every turn with that post also......Ortho

The problem is that many fishermen out there don't practice proper handling of sockeye.

I watched a guy on the upper fraser (yesterday) beach a sockeye and then toss it back into 6 inch deep water from chest height - !!???!?!!
Identify the fish while it's in the water, then beach it if it's a spring, and keep it in the water if it's a sockeye. Not rocket science. Use pliers to release the hook and then watch it swim away. Make an effort.

Anybody who has half a brain and wants to maintain the opening for recreational fishermen will practice proper technique for catch and realease of sockeye.

I guess some just don't have the intellect to make the connection, let's all try to nicely remind them and then we'll help ourselves.

I totally agree with you there Hallsy ...... and also perhaps if I may be so bold ..... Anybody with half a brain would use fishing techniques that minimize the impact on Sockeye in the first place ...... why bother catching Sockeye when all you are doing is putting at risk a possible rec. "catch & keep" opening in the future.

Whatever turns ya on Ortho .... j/k. It's no wonder we have the problems we do today with fishing when people like Henry and Italo still make fishing shows. What roll models ...

Using a short lead is a bunch of BS shut the river down to Bar fishing only!. I use a 3-5 foot leader when the socks roll in and it works just as good as a 12 foot, if not better sometimes, if I arrive at a bar and there is flossers there already I will floss for springs but otherwise the bar rods are out.............by the way, saw a couple socks jump yesterday, while Barfishing

I am at a total loss as to how those guys still have shows that are sydicated in Canada. What a couple of losers! They have both been charged and fined in the past for questionable fishing techniques, yet there they are every weekend on your TV yanking in some fish somewhere in Canada........Maybe we should invite them out to the Fraser this summer and teach them how to floss?? LOL./Ortho 8)

Actually Mike ....... if people are bb'ing for Springs I just drive right by ...... lots of bars to set up the bar fishing rod on.

I agree totally with you Ortho ...... but I betcha they both could teach some on the Fraser a thing or two .... or three ...

Hey go fish, I've seen that selective fishing notice for four years now. When you talk to the d.f.o. guys they say the same thing as I had posted! Shorten your leader and target deeper water. Do you know different :?:
