Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0662-Salmon: Aboriginal Economic Demonstration Fishing Opportunity - Tsilhqot'in National Government - Chilcotin River, Chilko River and Chilko Lake

Effective 00:01 hours August 17, 2010 to 23:59 hours September 15, 2010, an in-
river demonstration fishery for Fraser sockeye will be undertaken by the
Tsilhqot’in National Government in the Chilcotin and/or Chilko rivers and
Chilko Lake.

The amount of sockeye to be harvested in this fishery will be based on a
percentage share of the Canadian Commercial Total Allowable Catch as determined
in-season by the Fraser Panel. This number will be provided weekly to the
Tsilhqot’in National Government via a conference call.

Sockeye may be harvested using beach seines, purse seines, dip nets and partial
weirs.

Only those individuals designated by the Tsilhqot’in National Government are
authorized to participate in this fishery. The following Bands are members of
the Tsilhot’in National Government:

(a) Alexandria Indian Band (?Esdilagh);
(b) Alexis Creek First Nation (Tse Deldel);
(c) Stone Indian Band (Yunesit’in);
(d) Tl’etinqox-t’in Governement Office (Anaham Band); and
(e) Xeni Gwet’in First Nations Government.

This fishery is targeting Fraser sockeye salmon only. All efforts shall be
made to return non target species to the water alive.

A copy of the fishing licence authorizing this fishery must accompany fishing
personnel, be on board any vessel fishing under the authority of this licence
and be carried with the transport vehicle at all times during fishing and
transporting of fish. The fishing licence outlines the terms and conditions
that must be adhered to by any person participating in this fishery.

Economic Demonstration Fishing Opportunity

Just call it for what it really is....commercial fishing. No big deal. Why DFO has to beat around the bush and call it an 'economic demonstration fishing opportunity' fools no one..do they?
