Subject: FN0779-Salmon: Seine & Gill Net - Areas B & E - Areas 21 & 121 - Nitinat Lake - Chum - Update

The October 15th Nitinat Lake chum salmon abundance estimate is indicating a
total escapement into the lake of approximately 70,000 chum salmon. The
abundance estimate is unchanged from the October 12 estimate. The total in-lake
escapement target for this period, October 09-15, is 125,000 chums.

Area E gill nets had a 10 hour opening on Wednesday October 15. The preliminary
catch estimate for this fishery was 11,000 chum salmon. The total commercial
catch (Seine and Gill Net) at Nitinat to date is 44,000 chum salmon.

After reviewing the current escapement information, no fisheries are scheduled
for the upcoming period, October 17-23. The in-lake chum salmon abundance
assessments will continue and the next announcement regarding further fishing
opportunities in Area 21/121 will be released Thursday October 23.
