Well I am not sure how to begin this epic story so here I go again.
My previous experience with my boat drifting down the Harrison all by it's lonesome, would probably make most people a bit more aware ( Not me! )
After Launching my fine little craft and Hitting the bar directly opposite the Harrison confluence.
My buddy and I settled in for a little Sockeye fishing, Our timing was not great apparently as after about 2 hours, neither of us had had a sniff of a fish.
We were merrily casting away with not a care in the world, Suddenly my fishing buddy yells out " THE BOAT ".
With the amount of boats big and small, racing up and down the river the wake & current had caused the boat to slip off from the beach with the life jackets safely secured onboard.
In horror I see the mean nasty river making it's second attempt this year to swallow my boat.
I of corse have only flipflop like sandals on and sure enough my rod snags up right at this critical time.
I start to run toward the boat which is 50 yards downstream and now slowly drifting further and further out from shore.
Had t o make a decision quick. so I toss my rod on shore and dash after the boat.
I toss my wallet and smokes from my pocket towards the shore. 8)
A.) I am over 300lbs and don't dash well in flip flops on a rocky shore!
B) I blow a shoe and now am limping at a much slower pace!
C) With no lifejacket I decide not to mess with the mighty Fraser.
After Waving madly at a passing jetboat, thankfully they stop to help.
Mty boat is safely towed to shore. Thank you Thank you whoever you are!!!
Next step is to recover the Rod , wallet and smokes.
Well after dashing up and down shore like a mad thing, I am starting to get a little upset.
My rod was swallowed by the mean & nasty Fraser river, I am starting to wonder if my snag was a fish as rod reel hook line and sinker is lost and goneinto the muddy depths.
My buddy did find my wallet & smokes. ( puff puff )I figured I needed one.
We tried toossing the anchor to where we thought the rod might be No luck at all!!
Now I know I should count my blessings and I do.
But I am very sad as it was my only level wind, and as I am on disability I won't get another.
