Hey Guys,

I'm sure a lot of the salt water fishermen never get a chance to go up river but you should. We went up yesterday to bar fish. What I mean by bar fishing is using a spin and glow and a large weight. There is not a hope in hell of fishing any of the good bars because all the spots are taken by people snagging springs. These " bottom bouncers" were even using bare hooks on their 25 foot leaders. I saw a couple of big darker females taken. I guess that wouldn't bother me so much if it had actually bitten a hook. I thought the justification for this type of fishing was a sockeye meat fishery. One jet boat came by us 3 times full of people he was taking further up the river, that's a sweet little business he has. This racket should be stopped or the white man has no right to bitch about what other races are doing because we are no better.

I appreciate your anger brisco, do not worry many forum members feel the same way, some violently so. In fact if you do a forum search on flossing, sockeye or bottom bouncing I think you will find that this topic has been discussed over and over again.

Not much new or productive that can be discovered with this topic I am afraid.

Bottombouncing not a big favorite ,but hopefully it will die soon...Jetboat full of people is a load question..
He could of had a big group or family outing or was guiding a large bunch of people . Don't sweat that point, people who don't have a boat sometimes need to hire a water taxi too...

That guy taking boat loads(5 max) might have been me, I had a 20 person barfishing trip and we had to transport them to a bar and had 2 boats doing the taxi runs, I wouldn't assume that all anglers you see are flossing as there is still many of us that adhere to the law on sports fishing.

Hopefully the powers that be will finally make some law changes that keep flossing as a sockeye harvest only and making it illegal any other time, until such a time the snagging will continue, EVERYWHERE.

why can't all fishermen just get along.

I've float fished next to BB's and never had a problem.

mom always said "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."
I agree. I have never had problems with people bottom bouncing out on the river beside me. I just keep my mouth shut and enjoy the time I have out on the river. People get wayyy to worked up over things like this. Besides, I like a good laugh when they snag up and start swearing, then pull so hard the snap their crappy rod ::) Its all about personal preference, you can't force your opinion on anyone unless it becomes illegal (kinda like religion).

Hats off to the guides that are not B.B. I predict D.F.O. will close the Fraser to all sportfishing and will use fish snagging as one of the reasons. How many 30 pound springs have been released due to foul hook ?

I hate to say this... but when no one is looking probably none. If they dont have the ethics to fish properly, do you really think they are going to release a foul hooked fish ??? Look at the new catch and release sockeye report on mortality. They have only have 2 death out of a couple hundred fish BUT... The newest one has something like 3 % of fish were hooked in the mouth bottom bouncing, the other 97% are outside the mouth, that should say something. :wallbash: I don't really care about the bottom bouncing situation because they kill a lot less fish than the natives with their nets (but that is a topic that has been way over discussed). To each their own, they will never close it because it is HUGE business for the tackle shops (which also means more money for gov because of liscences) :2cents: I know this because my friend works at chilliwack dart and tackle and they were getting tones of business for that short opening we had. More money for gov = more turned backs. :wallbash:

Maybe someone can help me out here. So, if I go to Peg Leg at first light and cast out my spin and glow and establish my spot, what do you think will happen when the B.B. people arrive? I had better have a shotgun with me if I was to plan on staying. Same thing with Bomans and such. I have bar fished the Fraser for over 30 years and now have to change my style of fishing to a method I don't agree with.
