Our 4th Annual Finns & Skins Tournament will be held on August 23 this year at the Sandpiper Golf Course. This is the first year we have had 2 boats available. If you would like to join us or find out more information, please call or e-mail us. http://www.guidebc.com/tournament_finnsskins.asp

March 29 Jet Boat Seminar still has 3 seats available, if you know of anyone wanting to join us on a boat trip from Mission to Yale, please call us as soon as possible so we can get you signed up. http://www.guidebc.com/seminar_jetboat.asp

April 5 Sturgeon seminar still has 2 seats, this is a 6 hour trip on the Fraser fishing for sturgeon. http://www.guidebc.com/sturgeonseminar.asp

Upper Pitt River Power Project has been in the media and local papers this past week. This project is a travesty in the making so we as angling guides are not in support. If you are concerned or want to learn more about the Upper Pitt River project please attend this meeting Tuesday March 25.
Tuesday, March 25: Pitt Meadows Secondary School,19438 116B Ave in Pitt Meadows. Open house starts at 4 pm. Presentations at 6:30. The room will apparently hold 1000 people so everyone should be able to get in this time and, hopefully, speak up for the Upper Pitt.

Our new 4 hour Jet Boat Tour to Hells Gate has already taken off, with over 40 trips booked for the 2008 season we are expecting this new outdoor adventure to be a hit. You can choose a 4 hour tour of the Fraser Canyon from Hope to Hells Gate or spend the entire day in the canyon jet boating and fishing for sturgeon. Be sure to call us to book your first ever Fraser Canyon adventure. Checkout our canyon gallery http://www.guidebc.com/photos/photojetboat.asp and video's.

We hope you have had a great Easter Holiday and hope to see you on the water soon.

Fraser Valley Report

Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing has been excellent this past week. Ryan and Tom were both on the water most of the week landing 8 to 20 fish per day. Ryan got on a roll and landed our guests from California 72 sturgeon in 3 days of fishing. I think they might be coming back this Fall to try for the big boys. Sturgeon fishing only improves as we get closer to April, the oolichans are on their way so it won't be long before we starting seeing some of those larger fish in the river. We still have some good dates for April but weekends are getting booked up.

We are now booking for our April/May sturgeon charters and still have some good dates available. We can also add some steelhead fishing into these trips so make sure you ask about our steelhead/sturgeon combo trips when placing your booking.

Vedder River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing has been fair this past week, Gerry is landing 1 to 3 fish on most days which is probably slow for Gerry but great for most other anglers. The fishing should continue through the rest of March and April is one of our best months. If you're looking to fly-fish for steelhead, April and May offer some of the best opportunities.

We will continue to offer guided steelhead trips and instructional steelhead fishing with Gerry until water conditions are not suitable. This usually doesn’t occur until mid May so we still have lots of time to fish for steelhead.

Join us for one of our one on one or small group steelhead seminars. We are offering seminars and guided steelhead trips on a daily basis, first come first serve. The cost this 1-day on the river seminar with one of the Vedder’s top steelhead anglers is $275 for 1 person or $375 for 2 anglers.

Trout fishing in the Valley
Trout Fishing on the Lillooet has been fair to good, most of the fish are between 10 to 15 inches with the odd 16 to 20 inch fish. The salmon fry should begin hatching over the next week or two so trout fishing will only improve.

The Upper Pitt River sea-run Bull Trout fishery is almost hear. End of May through the month of June is best. Book now as we limit the number of anglers per day on this river. Last year our biggest trout was 12 lbs but we did manage quite a few fish between 8 to 10 and lots of 4 to 6 lb trout. Our best day was 40 fish on the fly so don't miss out on this world class fishery. Check out these fish from last year. http://www.guidebc.com/photos/photofly2.asp

Chehalis River
With record snow packs at Hemlock Valley Ski Resort you can be sure that once local weather begins to get warm, this river will be done for steelhead fishing. If you want to fish the Chehalis I would suggest getting out soon. A few reports coming from the canyon and most of them are the same, lots of walking, hiking and wetting lines for little reward. If you get lucky and find a pocket of fish, you’re rewarded with a few nice fish.

Vancouver Saltwater Report

Fishing has been a little inconsistent for chinook salmon over the last couple weeks. There are some decent winter chinook around in the 10-16 pound range but some days you really have to work for your bites. We have been hooking from 1-4 chinook salmon per charter recently. We have been hitting the majority of the chinook salmon off Spanish Banks and around the QB marker. Productive depths have ranged from 60-110 feet. Spoons and anchovies have been working when you can find the salmon. Crabbing has continued to be productive in the harbour. Crab traps are dropped on every charter!

We are expecting things to start heating up off the South Side of Bowen Island and the Gulf Islands in the next couple weeks!

Extraordinary Fly-fishing for Sea Run Bull Trout

BOOK NOW FOR JUNE 2008
45 minutes from Vancouver is one of British Columbia’s best-kept secrets. The Upper Pitt River is located at the north end of Pitt Lake, North America’s only freshwater tidal lake. Each spring the Upper Pitt River receives thousands of Sea-run Bull trout heading back to their home waters in Garibaldi Park to spawn. Each high tide brings a fresh run of fish into the lower reaches of the Upper Pitt River. We begin targeting this bright chrome fish in mid May with fantastic fishing opportunities through June until mid to late July. Some of the best fishing occurs between May 21 to Jun 31. These fish reach as much as 14 lbs with an average size of 4 to 8 lbs. incredible action on the fly and light spinning tackle. We are now booking for our May – June 2008 Sea-run Bull Trout Fishery. This trip is limited to 2 boats per day so book now for best dates.
