Well after all this cold weather we've been having today seemed warm enough for me to hit a local pond. After hearing it was stocked about 2 weeks ago i thought i'd give er a go! Got to the lake around 3 pm in hopes of playing a few stocked trout! Left the fly rod at home and brought out the trusty 6'6 trout rod! As i get to my spot i see there was not much fishing pressure maybe 3 other anglers tops. Started with using some cooked shrimp on a bottom rig and casted to a fishey spot where fish were rising! After a bit of waiting with out even a sniff i thought i'd check my bait only to find weeds covering my hook and weight i thought i'd switch over to casting a spinner! After making so many casts throwing a blue fox in the color orange still nothing but a sore arm from casting i thought i'd switch back to the bottom, this time switching to power bait! Waited and waited for over an hr with no strikes, i get into a conversation with a fellow angler who said he was there yesterday and was watching some fly guy lose a huge rainbow because his cell phone call was more important! He said the fly guy was with some hot blonde girl and a little pug dog! Something tells me that would have been HOOK! Stayed there till almost dark but got chased off the water because it was super cold and no fish for my efforts :'( But catching a fish to me is just a bonus! Might hit it again tomorrow with the fly rod after talking with HOOK a few days ago he was into a few on the cronies so it might be worth a try! Fish were jumping everywhere but at the end of my line! Thats fishing i guess! Nice cold day in surrey!

Sounds like you had a good day CK, regardless if you caught fish or not. It's always good to get out and chuck a line.

My local lake is the same when it comes to spinning gear and fly gear. Chuck a Mepps with a rooster tail for 3 hours and not a nibble; same thing on Powerbait (3 different colors!) with a float. As soon as I pick up the fly gear, the fish are all over it.

There's a lesson there!

Trout eat bugs. Large trout will eat bait fish and bugs. Hatchery fish will eat pellets and bugs. In general you will do better fishing for trout if you offer them bugs. When you see rising trout, they are eating ?? Right! - bugs. CK, Hook is right . Lose the spinning gear and try the fly rod on those rising fish. Maybe a lady mcconnel, or an Adams in size 14 or 16.

definately true about leaving stuff in your car RC there is 2 seperate piles of glass in the parking lot right now but havent seen more recently. Prof--CK never believes me that the fly will do better there, he is stuck in his gear ways  I have tried dries there but with no success even when they are rising like mad. usually when i try a halfback or spratley or something, anything else :beerchug:

I think I'm going to keep the spinning gear in the garage; I have made the transformation to full-time bug-chucker
