Went over to Halfmoon Bay this past weekend and fished the bay as well as outside just south of Epsom Pt. Halfmoon Bay was completely empty of fishing boats (and fish) for most of the day on Saturday. We only saw two other boats fishing all day long. Tide was out and we could not locate any schools of baitfish in the bay. Tide started to come in around 3 pm and we marked a few schools of fish near the southeast entrance to the bay. Landed one nice wild Coho around 6-7 pounds which we released. Also picked up a small Ling Cod about 14 inches long which we also released. Not sure how we hooked that ling cod as we were trolling spoons around 50 feet down in about 80-120 feet of water.

On Sunday, we fished from Epsom Pt south to the Pt near Pirate Rock. Marked some HUGE schools of baitfish between 25 and 75 feet. So big that our depth sounder thought the bottom was 25 feet down even though we were in 125 to 160 feet of water. Some of the schools went from 25 feet all the way down to the bottom. We landed one 30 pound white spring and one 20 pound red spring. We only fished for about 3 hours because I was dealing with a spun prop and was concerned about how long it would take us to get back home. There were a few other boats fishing outside near Epsom Pt but we were far away from them and could not tell if they were landing any fish. I am looking to make another trip over to Halfmoon Bay in August. Hoping there are more Coho in the bay by then.
