I recently scored a pin rod built on a Fenwick HMG 1262 blank. It has a very nice feeling overall but the movement of it seems not damped enough to my liking. Could the heavier old school guides be a reason? Would replacing the guides to newer light ones make a big difference?

I am not sure if it is a good idea to trade the beautiful wrapping and the nice look of the old guides off for a performance of newer light guides.

Your opinion from experiences will be appreciated.

After fishing with the rod, I wasn't happy about the sensitivity.
It feels so nice while fighting but it doesn't signal the bites very well.
Now I took all the old guides off and the rod feels a lot different.
I ordered Fuji Alconite K series guides for replacements.
I will post how that will make differences later.

Well, I replaced all the guides to Fuji Alconite K.
That evidently made improvements.
The rod is now lighter, a lot more sensitive, and stops quicker from vibration.
I am quite happy about the results.

Great choice on guides you have there. As for that Fenwick 1262. it is a gem. If you ever want to get rid of that rod, please buzz me first. :cheers: sage
