Hey guys, my name is Andy and I'm writing from Edmonton. Well I"m a prairie boy born and raised and have very little saltwater fly fishing experience. So I was hoping to pick your brains for advice. My wife and I are going to Victoria during the first two weeks of august this year to visit friends. They live up by Sidney somewhere right on the water. I thought I'd bring my 8 wt flyrod along and see if I could prospect from shore. Any idea what might be swimming around that time of year?

Secondly, what type of lines/ flies and techniques would you recommend. Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance AT

Hi:

If you bring two spools for your reel with you, one loaded with a clear full sink intermediate line and one loaded with a multi-tip line, you would pretty much cover all the bases you would run across fishing there.

right around that time you might want to take a day or 2 and drive up to the Courtney/Campbell river area. youll find salmon there. Pretty few and far between in the Sidney area

I've had pretty good luck with Cortland's 444SL clear sinking lines. My 8wt is several years old and hasn't cracked or yellowed.
