hey mods...

quick question - my email address is public on my profile and i want it to be private. also, the little envelope with a link to my email address appears below my avatar (well, where my avatar would be, if i had one...). How do i make it private?

I've gone into my profile several times and checked the "do not display email / make email private" (i can't remember exactly how it's worded...) box, entered my pw and tried to update my profile but, it is still showing up. Whenever i look at my profile my email is visible yet, the box to keep it private is selected. I searched the forum to see if there was info about this and couldn't find any.

Is this privacy feature something that is only enabled after 20 or 100 posts?

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're signed into the forum and view your own profile it'll show your email address. Try signing off the forum then viewing your profile as a guest. I viewed your profile and your email address is hidden and that little envelope isnt under your avatar (if you had one).

i wasn't really worried about most of the folks here... more the spam bots surfin' around cyberspace - had enough viagra ads into my previous email address to last a lifetime.

yes, it's a common mistake, I too wondered about that at one point. Your email will always be visible to you while you're online, but fear not, it remains unseen by the public eye...

as well as the IP address of your computer!
