Just wondering about HOOKS...

I have used Mustad and Eagle Claw hooks in the past. Now I use Gamakatsu almost exclusively. On a recent
visit to Cabela's and Pro Bass it was suggested I try OWNER hooks.

Anyone have experience with OWNER and if so....what was the result. Always looking for new products in line, leader and hooks.

Cheers

The owner hooks truly are something else with the point. Hooksets are made much easier and I have used as well as Gammakatsu, Mustad, Eagle Claw and many others and although I like Gammakatsu hooks Owners seem to be superior. Much improved my hookups on bass here... any pressure whatsoever on the tip should be enough to start the hookset and any further pressure should drive it through. The only problem I could see with them is that they can dull easier on rocks as the point is much thinner than Gammy's and the shape makes them tougher to sharpen... Heck buy a pack and give em a try, thats the only way you can truly be satisfied. Hope this helps some

Hey fellas!
Owner hooks,I can surely say after using them for a long time that they are the best hooks on the market for my taste.I haven't seen many on the market here in BC,run into them in a couple of stores and tha's it.I totally agre with Bill from above, exept the sharpening part, what happens with Owner hooks becouase of a such thin point lots of times it will just chip away when hitting rocks, while some other hooks the point will bend. When the point chips it's hard to sharpen that same hook again.Past two years I've used gammys, also I think top of the line hooks, only becouase of easy accses, but for sure will order few packeges online.I also think they are much stronger then gammys, the most important thing is of course the point, and owner hooks are flawless that way.

I picked up a pack of Owners today. I had never hear of them until I read this thread this morning. I happened to be in Trotac this afternoon, and I saw them so I bought a pack. I have never found hooks this sharp right out of the pack, but they seem a little smaller than other hooks.
Anyway, I usually buy my gear from Island Outfitters, but prices seem to be be better in Trotac. Just a heads up for Victoria anglers.

I've used owners a few times (when my friend lends some to me;)) and I didn't find any difference in my success than if I had used Gammies. Gammies are plenty sharp and strong for me and best of all they are a bit cheaper than owners. I guess you have to go with what you are comfortable with. BTW in the latest issue of Salmon and Steelhead Journal, there is a thorough review of almost all of the popular hook brands and Gammies and Owners were at the top of the list.
