Why can't we start our own make a wish foundation for members that need a little help. Maybe for those who never get a chance to do special things with in our group with things like fishing or some thing else that we or grand children can't afford. I am willing to put up $100.00 of my own money towards a fishing trip. A $100.00 x 5 members per year and if a guiding out fit gives us a break is a pretty nice trip for some one who doesn't have the chance or the equipment to do this. Each year the mods. could choose between qualified applicants who would be able to do this. We then could have a memorial trophy with each years participants name engraved for memorial sake. It's just a suggestion......

or some of the members with good experience and enough fishing gear to go around could take said people out fishing. just another suggestion. i like this idea though but maybe 50/person would get more people involved.

Also too there is a fish BC weekend where you can fish any where in BC with no lic. on certian lakes and rivers. It has alot of success, but don't you think we should get involved with this.I know a local sporting goods store in abbotsford that tries really hard to take part in this

Salmonator, I have been thinking about this since you first brought up the idea. I admire your desire to do something for those less fortunate, but am not sure that this is the right approach. Setting up a foundation to allow members to contribute and then to distribute funds and expertise to worthy recipients is a complex and time consuming process, and for some very good reasons. There needs to be an oversight mechanism that ensures the proper handling of funds (tax receipts, criteria for choosing recipients, valid accounting practices, controls on administrative expenses, etc.) Once you start soliciting funds for a cause, no matter how good the cause or how ethical you might be, you open yourself up to all kinds of scrutiny and criticism. I would encourage you and every member of this forum to be aware of those how need help to enjoy our sport. Give rides to those who can't get out to the water. Share your expertise with those less knowledgeable than you. Contact some of the already established foundations and begin volunteering with them.
