I moved from the Fraser Valley to the West Kootenays last summer and while I have the greatest Rainbow, Dolly and Gerrard fishing in the world I am really getting tired of winter.

Ice fishing for brooks and bows just ain't the same.

I sure am looking forward to seeing the ice off the rivers and lakes.....but I figure after this winter the "ice-off" on the high mountain lakes may be around August....LOL

All the pics of nice fish coming out of the rivers in the Valley almost makes me want to do a drive...but the "eau d'valley" makes me think twice.

Tight lines guys and have fun...I'll chase Gerrards on Kootenay Lake in April.

Hey kettlefisher. I can't even imagine what it would be like to hook into a Gerrard. Of all the fishing that I do, including salmon and steelhead, I think that my overall favorite is flyfishing the stillwaters of the interior! Unfortunately, I only get to the interior a few times a year. And the bloody traffic in Vancouver is getting worse - especially with the construction of the Canada Line. Oh - back to fishing. The steelies will get more aggressive when the water warms up as we move into March and April. Also, we've got a pink run coming up and it's a blast on the fly!

Cheers

I can and it wasn't on fly gear I can assure you that! :D

FWIW, I would still rather fish, generally speaking, the lakes and rivers of the Thompson-Okanagan and Kootenay regions as oposed to the gong show in the lower mainland. Having said that, something keeps drawing me back to the salmon and steelhead ....and you can't get that in Grand Forks. Hey Kettle, maybe you should try the bull trout action on the Wigwam River. Those fish rival in fight, the steelhead of our sea run rivers.

I did forget to mention tho that part of my fun here is that I get to take care of the fishing and hunting section at the Home Hardware here and the owner has given me a free hand......trouble it for every hundred dollars of his I spend I wind up buying $50 worth of new gear....just like a kid in a candy store.
