Is the vedder really that busy, as it was today, every year ? I went there planning to catch some fish, but couldn't find a place to stand. I ended up not fishing the vedder because of the crowds, that is just ridiculous. I know it is my own loss, and being so close to a major city, I would rather not fish. So we ended up going to find other places and wasted a bunch of gas, as the whole river was packed ! Every little pool had 50 people standing around it. unreal, I don't know how any one can do it.

was there today as well. we had may be 10-12 guys in our pool and three were on flies the rest floating and we had lots of room, no tangles or problems. we did get there early to stake our hold on some water.
fishing was awesome on the fly we landed loads of pinks, all released, acouple of wild coho, released in the water(no pics, sorry) and even some jacks, yummy it was for dinner. going in sunday also and will try and remember the camera.
i would say the vedder was busy but as stated it will only get more crowded till late october.

The more crap I read about the Vedder, the more I think you're better of NOT fishing there, especially if you don't like all the nonsense that goes along with the crowds. I'm thinking of staying clear of it.

i think if you go to the river with a good attitude, and dont let yourself get caught up in what everybody else is doing, you could have great days on rivers that see alot of traffic, as i did today on the vedder. arrived at fist light with my good budy who i have not fished with in some time and found the spot we where going to be empty and with no fish so we carryed on and found a nice piece of water inbetween 2 heavily fished runs with nobody fishing it. so we did,and in the course of 2 hours we managed to hook 3 springs land 1 jack and lost 2 coho.now if we had decided to fish with the crowds we probably would have left for home within 10 min because of what was going on between us, ie snagging, bbiing. i geusse what i am trying to say is that you do not have to fish where all the fish SEEM to be to have a good day on the flow.

Well, I decided to skip Sunday and tried this morning (monday) as I get Mondays off work as well. I went to vedder and saw some people but not over crowded like the weekend. i walked down farther and had a nice section all to myself. I FINALLY caught a couple Pinks. I hooked about 6, but only landed 2. Kept 1. So I finally caught a decent fish over a 1lb. I would like to thank Fishfreak for the help and great tips. Gonna take my daughter back later this week.

How many flies did you end up losing on saturday? And what happened to the large double-doubles your dad said for you to get for everyone else there????
I lost a few flies as well ::) I have this problem i cant seem to fix, when i strip my line in i have a bunch of line floating beside me from what i stripped in, and when a big spring hoosks up , i have a hard time feeding the excess line back to the fish when it initaly gets hooked and freaks out, I try to wind up the excess line as fast as possible but sometimes i have to much excess, and resulting the fish breaking off, i have gotten better at it but still a bit rusty

Hey I agree with ya pig,

I have fished with a million people and had great days, its all about your attitude. If someone is getting on your nerves just move its not worth it, if some guy moves in beside you just pull a fish out from under his nose. Its not gonna change at the vedder, but its still one hell of a fishery, it would be sad to see someone miss out on the potential of that river cause of a few knobs out there.

Anyway thats my rant for the night
