Good day all!

My name is Rick Baerg and I am from Chilliwack, BC. I am a full time fishing guide in the Vancouver/Fraser Valley and have been doing it for the last eight years. I have been fishing since I was a little boy and have lived and fished in several different areas in BC, Terrace; on the banks of the Skeena and it's tribs, Williams Lake; Caribou/Chilcotin stillwaters and rivers and down here on the mainland. I have been fly fishing and tying since I was twelve years old and started Spey casting in 1996, boy time fly's. Love to fish steelhead. I have the disease, steelhead-itis. Unfortunately I am addicted! Looking forward to chating with you all!

After seeing the first few posts, I was afraid I was the only guy in here old enough to buy a beer!

Name:Mike (a/k/a Mooky, an incredibly stupid and meaningless nickname that my fishing buddies in Idaho stuck me with that has never gone away).
Age: 39
Language: English
Residence: Idaho (or, as I like to think of it, 10 hours from Chilliwac) :)
Marital Status: Coming up on 15 years, 4 kids ages 3-11

Fishing Experience: Born and raised in Idaho, can't remember the first fish I caught. Now I am almost entirely fly fishing, which I have been doing since i was 9 or 10, so 30 years of that.

Fav salmon: Coho
Fav Trout: I think this is where Steelhead fit in (actually my favorite fish, period.) If not sea-run rainbows, then their non-sea-run brothers would be my favorite trout.
Fav other: Chinook a/k/a Kings, a/k/a Springs
Fav river: Vedder in BC, Salmon River in Idaho
Fav lake: I can count the number of times I have stillwater fished on one hand.
Fav Method: Fly.

I also want to say thanks to everyone on this board who has helped me, a newbie to BC. If any of you are ever headed to Idaho, you need to let me know!

C&P from FFBC:

Hi my name is Mike and I am a flyfishaholic  . Started fishing when I was five catching suckers with kokanee eyeballs of the dock of our cabin on Kootenay lake  . I have since learned how to fool them with flys although its not always as effective :? Got hooked on flyfishing in '99 when I was visiting my cousin in Skookumchuck. He took me out on the St.Mary's river where I learned to cast adult stoneflys for cutthroat .Since then I have been learning different methods of flyfishing. Found these fishing sites helpfull in learning from others experiences. Picked up a vice last year and have started to tie flys, have yet to catch fish on every pattern in my box, until then I will keep trying :)

Kev, I didn't know you were 32 !!! Hell, it must be all the years you've been out in the sun on the rivers, but I'd swear you're closer to 40!!

Better start wearing higher SBF ratings on the sun tan lotion....

Favorite Trout Set-up: Sage SLT and Hardy LRH Lightweight

Top Five Favorite Fishing Experiences (not in order of priority):
1 - sinking line chironomid techniques for 3 - 5 lb Kamloops bows (floating line techniques are OK too)
2 - flyfishing the Squamish for chrome bright pinks and chum
3 - casting and retrieving flies for coho and the odd spring
4 - hooking red springs on the fly (the Chehalis was awesome 5 years ago)
5 - fishing with members of the forum and getting to know them!

Other Fishey Info:
I've been flyfishing and tying since 1999 and landed my first coho and steelhead on the fly on a December morning in 2000. I picked up a drift rod and levelwind reel in 2004 and I'm having fun learning to effectively float fish - despite getting occasionally "ribbed" by FF  . However, my favorite method is flyfishing the interior lakes for Kamloops trout! I love to tie flies - it's my fishing away from the water. Unfortunately, I ran out of space in my fly boxes, and I have way too many boxes to carry around! I fish approximately 40+ days a year, and I have a very sweet wife who understands my addiction to the sport.
