Hi Bud,

My old man has been fishing the main lake for the past month. Fishing has been slow for the most part but is starting to pick up as the water temps drop. He was lucky enough to land a 18lb bow last week on a Rapala (Black & Silver with split body) trolled approx 200ft behind the boat using plainer boards to get the line out from the boat. Apex, lymans, rapalas, coyote spoons and hockey sticks are effective lures as are large bucktail flies (Buck tailing works better if there is a some chop). If you want to target the Bulls/Dolly's fish deeper +40ft. Dad has started tying some polar bear bucktails for Wal-Mart and the Balfour Beach Inn. If your in Nelson or Balfour you might want to grab a couple and forget to tell your buddy about them   The Gerrards feed on the kokanee in the lake so anything that might resemble the kokanee would be worthwhile. We troll the main lake fairly quickly 3-4mph and usually have to put in your time to get into the big ones.If there is a VHF radio on your boat crank it on and see what BS other fisherman have to say

Good luck :D

Well I didn't do well and nor did my buddy but the next day his wife nailed a 14 lb rainbow...took her damned near an hour to get it on board...I came home with a 1.5 and 2.5 lb bow.

...will be back in the spring tho'

Those are some massive rainbows, I always love looking at those pics. I can't believe that you're allowed to keep those fish
Chris, do yourself a favor, and go fish Kootenay or Arrow Lake. If you can't land a Gerrard, drop your line 20 feet and you'll be into 10-12 pound bull trout consistently. The bull trout have pink flesh like salmon because they they eat kokanee salmon.
