Just returned from a trip to Langara. Have been up there many times and the fishing seems to get worse every year for Chinook. It seems the fish dont hang around there very long before they are off to other locales. Out of 13 boats the average number of chinook caught per day was about 6-8 over a 5 day trip. If you read the OBMG posts on fishing you would think it was on fire -double headers at Andrews Pt. There was bite there the day they reference, for about an hour.

The West coast of the charlottes (Rennell, Tasu, Engelfield) seems to be much better, if anyone is considering a trip it is probably better to go out there. OBMG is offering discounts up to 65% for their Langara lodges if you book a week or so before, so it isnt too expensive to get up there. Perhaps a combination of spotty fishing, a low US dollar and economic issues in the US.

Don't believe all the BS from the outside of the Charlottes such as Rennell, Tasu and Englefield. They "have their moments" like any other place on the coast, however they're certainly not "squeaky clean" of exaggerating what's going on. Similarly, WCVI has it's moments as well...like any other place. It so happened that you had a "slow" trip. Were you guided? On what size boat did you go on? Did you get a bigger boat with a seasoned guide? There's quite a difference from cut plugging a location vs. using all kinds of hardware such as WCVI. If you guys were using hardware, I'll bet you could have doubled or tripled your production.

Anyways, sorry about your "catching" experience, but if you want meat, don't spend the mega bucks and go to the Charlottes. Go to Hardy or Uki, and that's all you need. Spend half the money, and go twice. How about that?

No offense to anyone who works there, but I think OBMG is famous for over exagerations in their fishing reports. Painters lodge is the worst for that. Sorry to hear the fishing up there wasn't that great.
yeah that's not surprising as it is free advertising and who is going to call them out on it haha I used to promote shows on internet forums and such and there is always embellishment on the internet. Thats why it's best to not believe everything you read on the internet and get out there and see for yourself ;)

It's going to be different every day... Monday and Tuesday where hot easy to limit out, Wednesday and today was hard sledding... Lot's of factors fish moved or they didn't move, bait fish moved or it didn't move... Big tide swings, wind all kinds of things... It's fishing all about the experiance... If you want a better shot at good fishing the Charlottes is a good bet... If you want a sure thing try a fish market...

Sorry to hear your adventure wasn't up to par. I work for a lodge on the west side of the Charlotte's.
As to not seem to throw a sales pitch at you, I will speak as a fisherman.....as first and foremost....that's what I am!

This season is showing the best numbers in a long while! We haven't had a trip this year that didn't see each boat land 20-30 chinooks per day!! In my words it is "off the hook" fishing!! I am amazed at this season of the cosistancy of the great fishing! I have fished the entire coast in my years and have experienced good fishing days, and good fishing weeks!....but never this consistantly! I just had a guest return this week to tell me he and his son landed 40 springs in one day!

I just returned myself 2 weeks back and I couldn't even hold on to my rod by the second day.....I was pooped!!

We are seeing enormous amounts of bait where we are and I believe that is making them hold at our location.

It truly is sick fishing!!!

You may take this as "exaggeration"........but we all know that fisherman don't lie.............................................<')))><

I believe you, seems most coastal areas are experiencing great numbers of hookups. At least the past three weeks anyways, but this could change in the next hour......day, week? You never know. One thing is certain, the cohos are showing up big time which is such great news given the state of affairs in the nineties.

you're more than welcome to come up and see for yourself........
No need to. I know one of the guides up there and you're full of it! I've also guided up there myself and know what I'm talking about...and 20 to 30 Springs a day for the entire season is GROSS exageration.

Going to Englefeild tomorrow, I'll report when I get back.

Fishing is a funny thing and I think experience plays a role as well. A couple of years ago up at QCL we had a little derby (unguided) I got 2 nice tyees and a bunch of coho, even won some dough$$. I was amazed while looking at the board thet there were a few names with blanks beside them..........no fish??

We even chucked our buds a few fish who were not having much luck and they even had a guide.

They "have their moments" like anyone else. You said entire season. They haven't been hooking that many for the entire season..and nor have the folks at your lodge. Tell you what, I'll fly up, you'll guide me and my group. If we don't get 20-30 Springs to the boat each day of the trip, you will BUY the entire trip (all inclusive) for my group of 6. Deal?

I was going to also say that there have been more '20 springs hooked' days this year compared to past years and that is a fact all along the BC Coast. But to say this is what happens every day, well that might be a stretch?
