FFM, Proffesori, and myself spent the up on Leighton yesterday. The skys were clear with a high around 25', and quite windy through most of the day. The action was speratic, but still steady enough to keep us interested. Not much in the way of big hatches, but the go to flyswere the # 14 gun metal chromie, and #16 black/red ribbed snow cone. Most of the fish were picking up our flys at the 15 foot mark. In all a great first trip of the year...Thanks fellas for a great time! ;D PIcs to follow.

We stopped in at Tunkwa, and had a chat with the manager of the resort. It has been fishing well over the last week with some bigger fish being caught. They've been stocking less 2N fish, in favor of tripliods, I guess it's starting to show. It was pretty windy there so we opted for Leighton instead. No big brutes were caught by us, mostly in the 14' inch range, with a few larger fish mixed in. Still a very enjoyable day on the water.

Hey Finder,

You guys were probably talking to my buddy who is the new owner of the lodge. His name is Al Patton. He is a great guy and a really good fisherman aswell. I can try to organize a fish-out up at his lodge if there is enough interest from the board. We could maybe do it in the fall? :drunk:

I had no idea Tunkwa Resort had been sold. Judging by the web site things look like they are improving the lodge, and area. Would love to do a fall fish in up there...as long as it doesn't happen while I'm up at Dragon. ;D ;D

Here are a few photos of the trip...

Professori about to make another cast.

FishFinder and a Leighton bow.

I kept two fish - one 13 incher, the other 18.5 inches.

The fishing was good at times, but definitely not "on fire". The fish were feeding on daphnia which are impossible to imitate. Small chironomids seemed to do the trick. Thanks FF and Prof for the great day!

good to hear you guys hit some nice fish

hope we make out better when we are there this long weekend :D maybe i can get my g/f (railslider) hooked on fly fishing :D

good to see the gun metal was working as that was the hot fly this time last year also plain chromy and a chrome green worked well for us those will be the ones i try first.

you say at 15' wow thats deep last year we hit all ours at around 6'-8' mark in about 20'-30' of water its was good nothing huge but then again this time of the year most the big boys are in spawning mode and in the creek which is an awesome thing to see and i will be posting ALOT of pics of everything on our return

well boys i hope i left you waiting here is the report from our trip. im not going to get fancy like rib

but as you can see we all had a good time even though we did get my girl out in a tube she didnt hook any fish as the fishing was tough and not to mention Saturday winds blew us off the lake almost the whole day

well here is all of us in our toys then just a few of the fish Wagon and I managed to conjure from the depths. and yes depths like 14feet down was the money as the fish were sitting at 19feet one guy told us :D sure wish I had a fish finder

ok those are just some of the fish we didnt get our limit but we did manage some really nice fish my biggest being close to 5lbs wasnt long but holy thickness and of course we HAD to keep one of these going

and here is a final shot of the happy little couple with their crazy licking, shedding baby

sorry for the abrupt post but im sleepy and need sleep not to mention my brain is fried :( and i cant think

Looks like it was a great trip there Hook...too bad the girlfriend didn't get into any...maybe she's still hooked though, considering there were no crazy hikes involved with that trip... ;) Nice fish too...

ya not treks this time but she wasnt a huge fan of the float tube she much rather a boat LOL

the colours were black/silver rib & a sort of chrome brown & gun metal & chrome i think those were the only colours that we got fish on i believe the brown one was the hottest colour for everyone seemed to get the bigger fish also

hope that helps Ortho if not i might be able to snap a picture for a better explanation of what it looks like

and we were in between the island by the main boat launch and the patch of weeds fishing 14' exactly in about 45' of water

Good report hook, some decent fish there. I'm looking at heading out for some trout in the next couple weeks. I'll probably hit Tunkwa and stay with my buddy who owns the lodge now. I'll write up a report upon my return.
